2 week USVI Itinerary (with our dog)
We chose to visit the US Virgin Islands because of a $70 USD flight deal from Miami. The US Virgin Islands are notoriously expensive so we’ll be giving you some tips on how to best spend your money here.
These stunning Caribbean islands are just a short flight away from home and don’t require a passport for U.S citizens but still feel like a world away. Keep an eye out for cheap flight deals on FareDrop and Scott’s cheap flights.

St Croix
St Croix is less visited which is part of her appeal. Her rugged coast line lines along the Porto Rico trench making it one of the best dive hubs in the Caribbean. Mix that with some lush jungle and some laid back vibes, and she’s an adventure travelers dream.
We hired a Jeep for this trip at $80 a day from Hertz Car Rental. We would definitely suggest hiring a car when you’re on the islands but do book the rental weeks in advance.
We stayed in two accommodations: an all-inclusive resort called The Fred Hotel at $363 USD a night and a more budget, relaxed hotel called Cottages By the Sea.
St Croix highlights:
Jeep trip to tide pool
Night dive with https://www.adventuresindivingstx.com
100 feet wall dive with https://www.adventuresindivingstx.com
St Thomas
Only a 15 minute (tiniest commercial plane ride of our lives) away from St Croix, is St Thomas. You can book a flight on CapeAir.com for around $100 USD per person. Tip for St Thomas: try and prebook a taxi from the airport to your hotel to avoid taxi scammers. Booking.com is great for that.
St Thomas is quite a bit more expensive than St Croix, so we decided to do St Thomas on more of a budget.
Budgeting tips:
Stay in a budget airbnb instead of an all-inclusive hotel.
Buy groceries from the local mart to cook and eat at home.
Book a car or scooter in advance to avoid last minute prices. Scooter - around $30 a day, car - around $80 a day.
St Thomas highlights:
Magens Bay (not dog friendly)
Crown Mountain (Highest point on the island)
St John
After a short stay in St Thomas, we caught a short 15-minute ferry ride (the Grand Vic) to St John. Saint John is the smallest of the three main US Virgin Islands, and famous for the Virgin Islands National Park.
